Every sweepstakes casino will verify your identity before it pays a prize. What varies is how often you are asked, and when. Our South Carolina reviewers logged 135 tests across 36 active sweepstakes casinos between May and September 2026, and recorded whether each one involved an ID check. Across the whole set, 34 tests did, about one in four. At the operator level the range was enormous: from none of 13 tests at McLuck to five of eight at Rebet.

What the pattern shows
Early checks and low scores often went together. The three operators that almost never asked for ID in South Carolina, McLuck, Spree and Pulsz, are also among the highest-rated by our South Carolina testers. The two that asked about half the time before letting testers buy, High5Casino and Chip'N Win, scored lowest. One South Carolina tester said the verification step alone made them not want to play.
Rebet is the exception. It checked ID in five of eight tests, and asks for a full Social Security number and location access, yet South Carolina testers scored it 8.8. Rebet pairs its up-front checks with a $20 redemption floor, and South Carolina testers rated its redemption a perfect 10.
A low ID rate does not mean no ID. McLuck's zero means our testers were not asked during their sessions, usually because they had not yet redeemed. Every operator verifies before paying a prize.
When you will be asked
Testers met ID checks at three points:
- At signup. Rebet asks for photo ID, a selfie and your Social Security number before you can buy anything.
- Before your first purchase. High5Casino and Chip'N Win often verified at the store.
- At redemption. Most other operators, including McLuck, Pulsz, WOW Vegas and Jackpota, waited until a tester asked to redeem.
Why operators verify at different times
Sweepstakes operators confirm who and where you are before awarding a prize, and each chooses when to do it. Checking at signup stops duplicate and out-of-state accounts early. Checking at redemption lets players try the site first and only verify if they win. The second is usually quicker to start.
What to have ready
- Photo ID. A driving licence is safest. One tester in another state had a passport rejected where a licence was accepted.
- Proof of address. A recent utility bill or bank statement, in colour.
- Your Social Security number. Some operators ask for the last four digits, Rebet for the full number.
- A phone that can take a clear photo. Several testers needed more than one attempt because of lighting or framing.
